CIB Label Compliance Guide 2026: What Every Pesticide Manufacturer Must Know

CIB label non-compliance is the number one reason pesticide manufacturers face show-cause notices in Maharashtra, UP, and Punjab. This guide covers every mandatory element for 2026 compliance.

What Changed in 2025-2026

The Central Insecticides Board updated label requirements under the Insecticides Act, 1968 with new circulars issued in late 2024 and early 2025. Key changes include:

The 12 Mandatory Label Elements

  1. Trade name and common name — in bold, with common name below trade name
  2. CIB registration number — "Registration No. _____ under The Insecticides Act, 1968"
  3. Active ingredient percentage — w/w for solids, w/v for liquids
  4. Formulation type — EC, WP, SC, SL, WG, SP etc.
  5. Net contents — in metric units with legal metrology compliance
  6. Signal word and skull/crossbones — size proportional to pack
  7. First aid instructions — trilingual (English, Hindi, regional language)
  8. PHI/Waiting period — per crop, per pest, per application method
  9. Directions for use — dosage, dilution, application method
  10. Manufacturer details — name, address, licence number
  11. Batch/lot number and date of manufacture
  12. Expiry date — "Best before" or "Use by" with month and year

The Trilingual Requirement

All safety information must appear in English, Hindi, and the regional language of the state where the product is registered for sale. For Maharashtra this means Marathi. For Punjab it means Punjabi.
